Editorial Standards
The UK Viewspaper publishes opinion and insight on the issues shaping Britain. These standards explain how we work, so readers can judge what they read.
We label what you are reading
Every piece carries a label. Opinion is an argument for a point of view. Analysis explains an issue and the evidence around it. Expert View comes from a contributor writing from professional experience. Interview and Investigation mean what they say. The Viewspaper Briefing sets out the strongest case on each side of a question, then what is known.
Arguments can be strong; facts must be sourced
Writers are free to argue hard. Figures, quotations and factual claims must come from a source that readers can check, and we link to it wherever we can. Where something is uncertain, we say so.
We take the other side seriously
Where a credible opposing view exists, we aim to publish it or link to it, and to describe it fairly.
Contributors are named
Every piece carries the writer’s name and a short note on who they are. We do not publish anonymous opinion.
We correct mistakes openly
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say what changed. See our corrections policy.
